History

The Day Porcalino Decided to Ride a Scooter

In the tiny village of Chafariz do Meio, where roosters crow at the wrong time and dogs sleep more than they bark, lived a very special pig named Porcalino. He wasn’t just big, he was generously filled. Not with fat, of course, but with dreams, ambition… and maybe one or two extra servings of boiled potatoes.

Porcalino was famous among the animals on the farm not just for his respectable size, but for being a true visionary. While the other pigs happily rolled in the mud, he read lifestyle magazines salvaged from Filomena’s recycling bin. That’s how he discovered something revolutionary: electric scooters.

“Urban mobility!” he snorted one day, his snout buried in a half-chewed copy of TrendLife Portugal. “That’s what I’ve been missing! Why stay stuck in this pigsty when I can explore the world on two wheels?”

And so began Porcalino’s obsession with scooters. First, he tried building one out of sticks and wheelbarrow parts. Result: he crashed onto a chicken. Then he tried asking a local human to borrow one, but all he got was an unwanted selfie captioned “look at this urban wild boar 😂”.

But Porcalino didn’t give up. One day, Filomena’s grandson Tiaguinho forgot his electric scooter by the farm gate. It was lime green, shiny, with blinking LEDs and a digital bell. Porcalino stared at it like someone who’d just seen a sign from the heavens.

“It’s fate,” he whispered, gently tapping the scooter like signing a pact with the universe.

With difficulty (and a lot of determination), Porcalino managed to climb on. The chickens stopped clucking. The cows paused mid-chew. Even old Zé the horse, half-blind with cataracts, raised an eyebrow. The entire farm held its breath.

Then, with a soft press on the accelerator… whoosh! He was off.

At first, it wasn’t pretty. The scooter made sounds no machine should ever make. It screeched in what could only be described as mechanical panic. But Porcalino kept his balance with unexpected grace. He zoomed ahead, ears flapping in the wind, tail held high, like he was born to do this.

He passed the farm gate and rolled down the dirt road, leaving a cloud of dust and disbelief behind him.

The village froze. Children clapped. Old folks took off their hats. One man even left his pastry shop to yell:
“GO, CHAMPION!”

Porcalino felt alive. He felt free. He felt… like the new symbol of rural micro-mobility. For 15 glorious minutes, he was the influencer we didn’t know we needed. Dogs chased him. People filmed him. A pigeon tried to keep up but gave up after 3 meters.

Sadly, every legend meets its turning point. At the corner of the bakery and hardware store, Porcalino attempted a sharp turn. Physics reminded him that scooters aren’t designed for high-speed pig drifts. The scooter slid, Porcalino flew… and landed, with dignity (and a thud), in a pile of straw.

Silence.

Then applause. Cheers. Someone threw flowers. The scooter? Retired with honors. But Porcalino gained something far more valuable: the eternal respect of the village.

Today, a small statue of him stands at the farm’s entrance. And every June, they celebrate Pig Scooter Day, with plenty of snacks, pork-free sandwiches, and scooter races with pig-nose helmets.

And Porcalino? He lives happily. He has nothing left to prove. Though rumor has it, he’s now researching how to go paragliding using an old mattress.
